Parents often believe that they have a good relationship with their teenagers. But last summer, Joanna and Henry noticed a change in their older son: suddenly he seemed to be talking far more to his friends than to his parents. “The door to his room is always closed.” Joanna noted.

Tina and Mark noticed similar changes in their 14-year-old daughter. “She used to cuddle up (蜷伏)with me on the sofa and talk ,” said Mark. “Now we joke that she does this only when she wants something. Sometimes she wants to be treated like a little girl and sometimes like a young lady. The problem is figuring out which time is which.”

Before age 11, children like to tell their parents what’s on their minds. “In fact, parents are first on the list.” said Michael Riera, writer of Uncommon Sense for Parents with Teenagers. “This completely changes during the teen years.” Riera explained. “They talk to their friends first, then maybe their teachers, and their parents last.”

Parents who know what’s going on in their teenagers’ lives are in the best position to help them. To break down the wall of silence, parents should create(创造) chances to understand what their children want to say, and try to find ways to talk and write to them. And they must give their children a mental break, for children also need freedom, though young. Another thing parents should remember is that to be a friend, not a manager, with their children is a better way to know them.

54. What troubles Tina and Mark most is that __ .

A. their daughter isn’t as lovely as before

B. they can’t read their daughter’s mind exactly

C. they don’t know what to say to their daughter

D. their daughter talks with them only when she needs help

55. Which of the following best explains “the wall of silence” in the last paragraph?

ATeenagers talk a lot with their friends.

BTeenagers do not want to understand their parents.

CTeenagers do not talk much with their parents.

DTeenagers talk little about their own lives.

56. What can be learned from the passage?

A. Parents are unhappy with their growing children.

B. Parents have suitable ways to talk with their teenagers.

C. Parents should be patient with their silent teenagers.

D. Parents should try to understand their teenagers.

Global warming is one of the major environmental problems we are facing today. Scientists think a further rise in the carbon dioxide levels will make this situation worse. The greenhouse effect causes the earth’s heat to be trapped in the atmosphere, which results in the increase in temperature. This, in turn, has an effect on various plants and animals. Global warming makes it difficult for some of them to survive.

Ozone depletion means a drop in the quantity of the ozone(臭氧) in the earth’s stratosphere (平流层). The ozone hole in the Antarctic is mainly due to the release of CFCs ( a type of gas). Because of ozone depletion, humans are facing various problems such as the harmful effects of UV rays.

Water pollution is caused when wastes are thrown into water. What’s more, many harmful chemicals are also put into water, which causes the deaths of many wild animals and endangers the health of humans.

The increasing population is causing a loss of natural resources. This is related to various human activities. For example, overfishing has caused many kinds of fishes to die out. Forests are being cleared to meet the rising demand for paper, wood, even for land. Mining, the work of getting gold, coal etc out of the earth, has led to a further drop in mineral resources. If we used up all the resources, how could our children survive on this planet?

These are some of the current environmental problems we are facing today. Only with an effort from each person, can we hope to save our planet from being destroyed.

作文(15)

Dear Editor,

I’m writing to tell you about our discussion on setting off fireworks. We discussed the advantages and disadvantages of setting off fireworks during the festivals, especially the Spring Festival. 25 girls and 25 boys attended the discussion. As a result, 50of them believe that setting off fireworks certainly adds pleasure and joy to the festival, therefore, it is a wonderful tradition. And at the same time we must protect our traditional holidays. But another 40 of the students think that setting off fireworks causes air and noise pollution, and what’s worse, it sometimes causes terrible accidents to us and to our property. The other 10 have never thought about it or don’t care a bit.

In my opinion, setting off fireworks should be limited to certain areas and time. Thus it can avoid the above disadvantages.

Yours truly,
